Bank of America's COO & CTO Visits The Hall

Catherine Bessant, Chief Operations and Technology Officer for Bank of America, visited with students on October 1, 2015 to discuss cybersecurity and developing technology in the banking industry.

Catherine Bessant serves as the chief operations and technology officer at Bank of America, and is a member of the company’s executive management team. She is responsible for delivering technology and operating services across the company, and she does so with a team of more than 110,000 employees and a $17 billion annual budget. Additionally, she oversees a unit that is responsible for all facets of the organization from processing checks and managing call centers, to rolling out new innovations such as Apply Pay.

Calvert Hall students had the opportunity to meet Bessant to learn more about the rapidly growing cybersecurity need in the banking industry.
In addition to sharing her responsibilities, she spoke candidly with students about how being a man of intellect, faith, and integrity is the core make-up of what she looks for in future employees. Bessant was impressed with the questions asked by students which ranged from gender equity at Bank of America to the Federal Reserve information leak.

Bessant currently ranks No. 6 on American Banker’s “25 Most Powerful Women in Banking” list. She was named InformationWeek’s “Chief of the Year” in 2014. Bessant also was named one of Computerworld’s “Premier 100” IT leaders, and was ranked No. 3 on the 2014 Institutional Investor “Tech 50” list of financial services leaders in technological achievement and innovation.
