All-Metro Player & Coach of the Year

Ben Alexander '17 and Rich Zinkand '87 were named All-Metro Player and Coach of the Year by The Baltimore Sun and Varsity Sports Network.

A captain, Ben finished the season with 25 goals — including the tying goal in the Cardinals' 3-2 win over Archbishop Curley in the championship game — and added six assists.

"Ben is an old-school, blue-collar forward. He is 6-foot and used his size to his advantage," Cardinals coach Rich Zinkand said. "… He can play facing the goal and beat defenders with speed, play with his back to the goal, or finish with his head. His goal in the final tied the game and gave us momentum to get the win."

The Cardinals (15-4-2) finished the season where they started — atop The Baltimore Sun's Top 15 poll — in claiming their fifth MIAA crown and 32nd overall league title dating to 1928. Zinkand, who was part of two Maryland Scholastic Association championships as a player, has a 56-38-9 mark in his five seasons at the helm.
