The Leadership Institute - Overview

The Leadership Institute is designed to facilitate the development of 21st century leaders responding to our Lasallian charism, school mission and graduate profile. Established in the fall of 2016, the program seeks to be flexible and to be inclusive, allowing students who wish to gain practical leadership skills, the opportunity to learn and grow.

The Leadership Institute Experience

The Leadership Institute is a three-year program structured to fit around the various facets of a student’s busy schedule. Members are active participants in the school community - sports, clubs, activities, and service. In addition to field trips and other experiential learning opportunities, students are invited to attend a Leadership Speaker Dinner Series including small group discussion. Past speakers include Admiral Samuel Locklear who last served as the Commander of the US Pacific Command, Louise Senft, founder of the Baltimore Mediation Center, the first mediation and training firm in Maryland, and many others.

The Leadership Institute Curriculum

The program is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Sophomore year - students participate in four after-school seminars that grapple with the fundamentals of leadership in a project-based, cooperative style.

Junior and Senior year -  students take ½ credit courses in leadership traits and profiles of leaders. Ultimately students will present a capstone project, for which each leader must actively attempt to improve the Calvert Hall community while tracking his efforts and reflecting upon them. The successful completion of all of the requirements of the Institute will result in graduation with distinction.

The Leadership Institute prepares students to become leaders in the Calvert Hall community and the communities they will belong to as they grow and continue to develop as young men. With an awareness that we live in an increasingly global society, the Leadership Institute promotes the development of communication and team building skills as well as empathy and cultural appreciation that are the foundations for educational and professional success.
