President’s Letter for Alumni Newsletter
Dear Alumni and Friends of Calvert Hall,
It is my great pleasure and honor to write to you at the start of the 2014 - 2015 academic year at Calvert Hall. I have only been here since mid-July but am overwhelmed by the warm and gracious welcome from so many people, including many alumni. Even though I have been here for a short while, it is easy to understand why the Hall is so special to so many. It is a privilege to join this wonderful community. I look forward to meeting many more of you in the weeks to come.
Joe Baker, who so many of you know, has now assumed the role of Chief Adminstrative Officer and Director of Advancement. Joe and his staff have gotten off to a great start this summer. This includes the start of the Mark Amatucci Scholarship Fund that has already received over $250,000 dollars in pledges. Thanks to Mark for spearheading this effort and the basketball court will be named the “Mark Amatucci Court” prior to the game against Loyola on December 21. Jeff Blake has replaced Joe as the Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs. Jeff brings a long tenure as a member of our math department to that position.
The school year has gotten off to a great start. We welcomed 315 students to the Class of 2018 the last week of August and classes are now underway. Calvert Hall is blessed with a dedicated faculty and staff who embrace the Lasallian tradition that marks Calvert Hall as unique. Many of our teachers are alumni and have been here for some time. All bring passion and energy to the classroom and all other aspects of our students’ experience with us. It is appropriate that our Student Council chose the theme, “Feel the Zeal” for this year. Faith and Zeal are key values that John Baptist de La Salle founded the Christian Brothers with. They remain key to who we are today and it is evident those values are present at Calvert Hall.
I am grateful for the generous support of our alumni and friends. Just this fall the Alumni Association funded new uniforms for our excellent marching band. We are committed to the Lasallian mission that has been embedded in Calvert Hall since it was founded in 1845. Your connection and support of this mission allows us to provide the same excellent academic education rooted in our Lasallian values to young men today and going into the future.
Calvert Hall is proud of our alumni and the success they represent. We ask you to continue your support and consider getting involved with the Alumni Association. They have been a wonderful partner in keeping the mission alive and well. If you have not been on campus in a while, come back for a visit. You will like what you see. Thanks again for your support.
