The endowment will be called the France-Merrick Scholarship Endowment. Since 2003, the France-Merrick Foundation has awarded $250,000 in funding to Calvert Hall.

 

This grant will help Calvert Hall support students from Baltimore City and County with significant financial need who otherwise would not be able benefit from a Calvert Hall education. With a growing number of families needing financial assistance, The Hall strives to meet the needs of many families. The endowment fund will provide scholarship money annually to support students selected as France-Merrick Scholars. The scholarship will provide tuition support for these students whose families fall below the federal poverty level.

 

“For many years the France Merrick Foundation has invested in organizations to improve the lives of the people of Maryland, especially in the Baltimore region and promote diversity,” shared Br. John Kane, FSC, Ed.D., President of Calvert Hall. “We are grateful for this generous grant that will help make a Calvert Hall education accessible to young men who could not attend without this support.”

 

The France-Merrick Foundation’s education funding is its largest area of focus, representing 40% of annual grants. Regarding private school grants specifically, support granted is to help increase diversity and inclusion as well as provide positive educational experiences to qualified students.

 

“The France-Merrick Foundation is pleased to be able to assist Calvert Hall to offer scholarships to Baltimore students,” said Executive Director Amy Gross. “This grant furthers our education goals to provide positive educational experiences to qualified students, regardless of income, and we know Calvert Hall will support the success of students now and in the future.”

Calvert Hall will begin awarding the France-Merrick Scholarship in the 2020-2021 academic year.
