“We are excited to welcome Coach Neal back to Calvert Hall,” exclaimed Principal Charles Stembler ’83. “He will be a great asset to our community. We are blessed to have someone with his skill set and expertise.”

 

After graduating from The Hall, Neal played at LaSalle University (scoring 1,041 points) and Towson University (scoring 1,254 points). He is one of only three players in college basketball to ever score 1,000+ points at two different Division I schools. He was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Year, First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association, Second Team All-Colonial Athletic Association, and Mid-Major All-American.

 

Coach Neal shared, “As a proud alumnus of Calvert Hall, I look forward to leading the Cardinals basketball program. With such a storied tradition rooted in excellence, I am excited to get started.”

 

Neal will also bring a wealth of basketball knowledge to Calvert Hall having played for NBA coaching legend, Gregg Popovich, head coach of the San Antonio Spurs. In addition to three seasons with the Spurs, Neal had stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Bobcats, Minnesota Timberwolves, Washington Wizards, and Atlanta Hawks. In 2011, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie team.

 

Athletic Director, Lou Eckerl, shared, “Gary is a great fit for our athletic department and faculty. His experiences will help him lead our young men on the court and in the classroom.”

 

Neal earned his B.A. in History from Towson University. He then earned his M.A.T. with an emphasis in Secondary Education from Towson University.
