In Memoriam of Br. Kevin Strong, FSC

It is with great sorrow that Calvert Hall shares with you news regarding the passing on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, of former Calvert Hall President, Br. Kevin Strong, FSC.

Br. Kevin was the first president of Calvert Hall, serving from 1990-2000. Soon after finishing his term at Calvert Hall, he was called on by the Archdiocese to take over as the president at Cardinal Gibbons High School. He later returned to Calvert Hall to serve as an academic advisor for students.

For over 65 years, Brother served the religious community of the De LaSalle Christian Brothers in every capacity and positively influenced the lives of thousands of young men. Brother served as a teacher, counselor, vice principal, principal, and president at Christian Brother Schools in Philadelphia, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, Radnor, PA, Miami, FL, Washington, DC, Canton, OH, and Baltimore, MD. In recognition of Brother’s service to the needs of the church in Baltimore, Brother was honored by Cardinal Keeler with the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal in 1996.

The Brother Kevin Strong, FSC Scholarship at Calvert Hall honors Br. Kevin’s commitment to his students. The scholarship supports students with significant financial need who otherwise would not be able to attend Calvert Hall.
Brother published a collection of poetry in 1996 titled “Walking in God’s Presence.” He also recorded a CD “Sing Claddaugh” featuring his favorite Irish Songs.

Principal Charles Stembler shared, "He was one of the kindest, gentlest, affirming people I have ever met.  When I think of God’s presence here on earth, I always think of Br. Kevin.”

President Br. John Kane, FSC said, “I have known Brother Kevin since my high school days at La Salle College High School. I was then privileged to work with him in his administration when he was principal at Archbishop Carroll in Radnor, PA. It was good to be reconnected with him here, at Calvert Hall. He made a tremendous contribution to Calvert Hall as the first President. To me he was: teacher, mentor, advisor, friend and most importantly Brother. Brother Kevin’s greatest strength was his caring and gentle nature. Everyone who came in contact with him left feeling better about themselves. We will miss him.”
