DeMatha heads north to Baltimore for a non league tilt with Calvert Hall. A short bench for for the Ice Cards would give all a chance to contribute in this one. DeMatha would strike early & often with the ever so frusrating toe drags from the Stags to grab a 2-0 first period lead. Defense corps of Meyers, Epple, Leitch, & Rollison started stepping up & shutting them down leaving the speedy line of Dooley, Connell, & Shiflett to fire back with three quick goals. Yes, that is Coach Stansbury's 1994 CCM Super Tacks you see Kevin Shiflett flying up & down the ice in. Kudos to coach for having a pair handy for the missing skate.
Ford, King, & Castaldi would all add goals set up by assists from Heseltine, Garman, Epple, & Ford.
Another solid win in net for Joe Ketchen with 26 saves.
Dunkin Donuts Spiced Chai Tea Player of the game: #4 Peter Castaldi with goal, assist, & numerous forced turnovers to frustrate the Stags from tying the game up.
MIAA JV league game versus St. Paul's hits the legendary Mimi DiPietro Ice Rink in Patterson Park on Thursday evening. Fresh off their best team practice of the year, the Ice Cards come out attacking quickly with a snipe from senior Kyle Epple netting his first goal of the season. Shot was great, celebration was questionable as the Hall bench was trying to figure out if he was stung by a bee or playing the banjo. Matt Meyers, Mason Gage, & Caleb Fisher would also add goals. Top two forward lines would battle for scoring supremacy as Zach Dooley & Christian Ford would each add two goals in the 8-2 Hall victory.
Joe Ketchen continues to shine in the pipes picking up another hard fought MIAA victory for the Ice Cards placing them at 3-1 in division standings.
Long John Silver's Shrimp Basket Player of the game: #25 Brendan Connell Solid forecheck & backchecking from the gritty assistant captain who added two assists. More importantly prior to game, was combing the rink for estranged pucks. A solid effort, adding 6 more to the team bag.
Next up, DeMatha Monday 12/11 3:30 puck drop at Mt. Pleasant.
First 250 fans in attendance receive a Coach Peppy custom holiday tree ornament.
The JV Ice Cards head north for a out of state clash with St. Mark's varsity team. University of Delaware's Gold Arena was the site for the Monday night game. Joe Ketchen's 31 saves kept the red & gold in the game to match the high powered & dominate offensive play of the Spartans. Goals by Dooley, Johnson, & a pair from Heseltine capped the scoring for the Cards. Christian Ford & Peter Castaldi added two assists as well. The coaches dug deep on the bench to get a bit more aggression on the break outs, freshman Mason Gage would answer the call by throwing his body all over the ice making sure each Spartan knew what just hit them.
Panera Bread's French baguette player of the game: Kevin Shiflett
Kevin's hustle, determination, & grit kept the offense moving all game with numerous scoring chances.
NBC's Hockey analyst Pierre McGuire caught up with Coach Paul Kansler just before team boarded their private jet back to Towson for his post game comments. "I think we gave them a solid effort & this will only help prepare us for a big MIAA JV showdown at Patterson Park on Thursday vs. St. Paul's."
