March Feature - Tony DiFatta `02

As a graduate of CHC, I have been fortunate to receive significant support from the Calvert Hall community. I am thankful for every referral and partnership that has come my way. I look forward to reconnecting with everyone at Homecoming or any of our classes reunions that I've been in charge of planning.
The time since graduation from CHC has flown by. I attended Towson University, graduated in 2006, and passed the CPA exam the following year. I worked for several local firms while I built a small accounting firm of my own, and eventually took the leap to become fully self-employed. I also own a commercial office building in Towson and help operate Insight Connex, which is dedicated to facilitating business networking in and around Baltimore.

Part of the purpose of this feature is to explain how I might have a unique opportunity to serve members of the community who are self-employed. Recent changes to Maryland State tax legislation allow for personal income taxes to be paid and expensed at the entity level for partnerships and S corporations. This allows for people to deduct more than the currently $10,000 limit in State and Local Taxes (SALT), which can be particularly helpful in a state with high income and property taxes such as Maryland. If you are looking for someone to help you strategically lower your tax burden, I would love the opportunity to discuss my firm’s services.
