It is with great sorrow that Calvert Hall shares with you news regarding the passing on Friday, April 24, 2026, of former Calvert Hall faculty member, Br. Joseph Keough, FSC.
Br. Joseph taught at Calvert Hall from 1979 to 1988 and again from 2008 to 2026. Lasallian schools are guided by a vision of good order, a balanced, holistic, and faith-centered approach to education. Br. Joseph was a devoted steward of this tradition, maintaining what many described as a living “library of good order” in both practice and spirit. He was also known for carefully studying the school’s student directory, committing names and faces to memory so that he could greet each young man personally as he passed them on campus.
Since 1965 when he received the Religious Habit, Br. Joseph devoted his life to the Christian Brothers and teaching. He served his first assignment at Elkins Park Scholasticate (PA) as an undergraduate at La Salle University. He additionally worked at Central Catholic High School (PA), Archbishop John Carroll High School (PA), Seton LaSalle High School (PA), La Salle College High School (PA), and attended Sangre de Cristo Retreat Center (NM) as a retreatant.
President Br. John Kane, FSC, said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Brother Joe Keough. He has been a long-time member of the Calvert Hall faculty. Brother Joe was the quintessential librarian and loved all things related to books. More than a few of our alums will recall being shushed by his use of "shhh". He was a good and faithful servant who will be missed.”
Details regarding arrangement to follow once they are made available.
