Cardinals drop 2nd straight

McDonogh scored a 7-0 shutout in the 1-2 pairing and went on to deal the Cardinals their second straight loss and first regular season defeat at Country Club of Maryland in three years, winning 16-5 on Wednesday, April 15.  Calvert Hall got two points from sophomore Finn McGinnis and senior Jimmy Workmeister, while junior Charles Carter salvaged a half-point on the back six and McGinnis-Doug Grem won a half-point in the team point category.  That was all the scoring Calvert Hall would do on Wednesday, as the Cardinals fell to 4-2 on the year.

"We didn't play well.  It doesn't get any easier to explain that that, I suppose," said Coach Drew Forrester afterwards.  "We got off to a slow start.  We trailed after the third hole in every match but one.  That put us behind the eight ball right away and we never really recovered from it."

Forrester pointed to Monday's loss at Archbishop Spalding, where Calvert Hall lost for the first time all year.  "I don't know if Monday's loss was still hanging with us, but we didn't seem energized as a team on Wednesday.  Maybe that loss to Spalding was still sticking with us.  It's tough to say.  We played far below our capabilities, though, and we'll spend a day or two looking carefully at it to try and make sure it doesn't happen again."

Calvert Hall returns to action on Monday, April 20 with a road match at Elkridge CC vs. Gilman.
