Ben O'Connell brought home the go-ahead run to give the Calvert Hall Cardinals the lead in the sixth inning, as the Calvert Hall Cardinals hung on to beat Riverdale Baptist 5-0 on Wednesday.
With the game scoreless in the sixth inning O'Connell came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Parker Landwehr.
Garret McIlhenney got on base two times in the game for the Calvert Hall Cardinals. He singled in the seventh inning.
The Calvert Hall Cardinals' Colin Flynn kept Riverdale Baptist off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the mound. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out two.
Jackson ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just six innings, walked four, struck out six, and allowed one run.
The Calvert Hall Cardinals increased their lead with four runs in the seventh. An error scored McIlhenney to get the Calvert Hall Cardinals on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Landwehr's single, bringing home Dominic Freeberger.
