Calvert Hall's Crowley wins MIAA Individual Championship

Michael Crowley '20 held off several college-bound seniors and won the MIAA Individual Championship on Wednesday, April 17 with a final round score of 71 at Eagle's Nest.  Crowley shot 73 in the opening round on Monday to hold a one-shot lead over Loyola's Trent Geritz (headed to Loyola University).

With steady play throughout the second round, Crowley never trailed as the players made their way around the 6,800 yard course.  He birdied 7, 8 and 9 to shoot 33 on the front, then rebounded from an 11th hole bogey to birdie the par-5 12th.  After consecutive bogies at 14 and 15, Crowley parred the 16th hole and made birdie at the 17th after hitting his second shot to three feet at the penultimate hole.

Brandon Wilson of St. Paul's (heading to Dickinson College) and Lou Baker of St. Paul's (University of Richmond bound) finished tied for 2nd with Geritz.

Crowley's win gives Calvert Hall its firs individual champion since Jason Burton won the event in 2009.

Two other Cardinals finished in the top 10; freshman Lorenzo Sanz (80-76) finished T10 and junior Austin Steckler had two solid rounds (77-77) to finish T6.

"We are all extremely proud of Michael," Coach Forrester said afterwards.  "We're also proud of Austin and Lorenzo as well.  Those three played great golf for two days in some challenging conditions.  I know Michael has been looking forward to this event all season long and to see him come out on top is very gratifying."
