I recently shucked oysters at a birthday party and the gentleman’s son was so excited to see that I had a Cardinal sticker on my truck. He was eager to inform everyone that he had already made his decision for high school and CHC is where he wanted to go. I said to myself, “Wow.” This young boy was around 10 years old and already knew where he wanted to go with his future. This immediately made me feel proud of our Alma mater and knew we was making the right choice. With this in mind, I started to reminisce about when I went to ‘the Hall’ and how much I learned and grew, both personally and professionally. From my memories of Mathematics with Mr. Lobdell, Latin with Mr. Farrelly, and being on the sidelines with Coaches Binder, Eckrel, Micelli, Amatucci and Baker, I learned so much from the facility and staff that would help shape my own future. There are an overwhelming number of people at the Hall who have helped shape what our small business is today. Superior Oyster Shuckers provides mobile raw bars and oyster shuckers to businesses, caterers, country clubs, bars, restaurants, and private parties. Throughout our growth, we have partnered and worked with other Hall Alumni to help make their events a success. We strive to provide excellent customer service and meet the needs of each individual or business. We are even lucky and blessed enough to be able to shuck oysters at the Hall for Homecoming before the Turkey Bowl. I was able to attend the 100th anniversary of the Turkey Bowl last year with my own children and it brought back such great memories of pride and camaraderie within our brotherhood. During the game, I ran into many alumni whom I hadn’t seen in quite a while and it immediately brought back that amazing feeling of being part of something so special while getting to wear the red and gold. As we all know, life has its ups and downs, and at times gets extremely busy, with this being said, it is great to be able to spend time with your family while at work. I began my career shucking oysters while in attendance at CHC along with a few of my other family members who have also obtained the LaSallian education. I have had the pleasure of shucking with my Uncle, Patrick Metzger ’93, my Brother, Kevin McGrath ’08 and can’t wait to be able to shuck with my Son, Noah McGrath, in the near future and will be a part of the class of ’32. We are an environmentally conscious business and strive to give back to the Chesapeake Bay by having teamed up with the Oyster Recovery Partnership. They are responsible for cleaning, preparing, and placing the recycled oyster shells back into the Bay to help repopulate the oysters and spur new oyster growth to help clean the waters of the Chesapeake. Sustainability is important and we strive to give back every shell that goes through our hands to assist in growing the oyster population and making a healthier Chesapeake Bay. Please feel free to check us out on social media and don't forget to drop by and say hi when you see us out and about doing what we love, especially next time you're at homecoming. If you like oysters, give us a call and we will bring the Raw Bar to you and make your next event Superior.
