Connor Paszkiewicz is a second-generation, 2020 graduate of Calvert Hall. Since graduation, he has been studying Business Analytics at the University of Notre Dame with a minor in Energy Studies. Connor is currently in London for the spring semester through one of Notre Dame’s many study abroad programs.
My time at Calvert Hall has no doubt left an impression that has impacted every aspect of my college experience. The McMullen Scholars Program, wide range of AP courses, and overall support from CHC faculty ensured that I was more than prepared for my college courses. But, the Calvert Hall experience has given me so much more than just a good education. Through the Cross Country and Track & Field teams, I was able to be part of a high-performing varsity program that focused more on team skills and honest and open communication than on winning a championship, and we still had no shortage of championship victories. Additionally, the close-knit network of alumni in Baltimore and school spirit of Calvert Hall is incredibly similar to that of Notre Dame. I have enjoyed connecting with individuals from both of these schools as both mentor and mentee, which has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my education. I encourage anyone who has ties to or is considering Notre Dame for undergrad, or who may be in the data analytics fields to reach out! I have found both the Calvert Hall and Notre Dame communities to be incredibly welcoming and helpful.
When I first arrived at Notre Dame for the first full semester of COVID-19 policies in the fall of 2020, I had no idea what major I wanted or how I was going to get a real college experience. But by the end of freshman year I had immersed myself in the unique dorm culture of ND and found a strong community of friends there. As social distancing and mask mandates were lifted, the ND campus seemed to roar to life and the undergrad experience that I had expected all along finally came to fruition. With things now back to normal I enjoy being a die-hard football fan among the 80,000+ fans that visit for home games, training and competing with the running club, and taking in the beautiful campus scenery whenever I get the chance.
Now in London, I am experiencing an entirely different version of college undergrad life. I have travelled and have more trips planned all around Europe on the weekends, while during the week I go to classes focused on topics like the history of soccer in Britain and Britain’s role in WWII. I am within a short walk of many of London’s most historic landmarks, as well as many popular museums and galleries which are free to enter. There is always a new place to visit without breaking the bank which is why I think London is such a great choice for study abroad. I am excited to see what adventures await me over the next 10 weeks of my program and welcome the opportunity to grow and learn in an environment truly unlike any other in my lifetime.
Of course, this experience would never have been possible without my experiences at Calvert Hall that opened countless doors and allowed me to succeed beyond my education. I am blessed to have been able to attend Calvert Hall and take advantage of all it has to offer even after graduation, and I hope that other undergrads and current CHC students will see this same opportunity given to them.
