Cardinals snap losing streak with win at Gilman

Losers of two consecutive matches for the first time in three years, Calvert Hall took to the road on Monday, April 20 to face a talented Gilman squad in what Coach Forrester dubbed "a near-must-win for us".  With senior Doug Grem making his debut at the #1 position, the Cardinals got points from all six players and pulled away on the back six to post a 14.5-6.5 victory at Elkridge CC and improve to 5-2 on the season.  Grem won two individual points, while junior Charles Carter claimed 1.5 points individually and he and Grem teamed up to win the team point as well.  In the 3-4 pairing, senior co-captain Paul Schwing produced a resounding 3-point individual win and senior Jimmy Workmeister won the front six and the overall point, as he and Schwing also won the team point.  Sophomore Finn McGinnis won the back six and the overall point and he teamed up with Ryan Camille (1 point) to also claim the team point.

"This was a huge win for us," Coach Forrester stated afterwards.  "It wasn't quite must-win, but it was as close as you could get to that level, I guess.  We aren't used to losing two or three matches in a row, so I was very interested to see how we would respond and I'm happy to report we played some of our best golf of the season on Monday in the win over Gilman."

Calvert Hall improves to 5-2 on the year and will play a non-conference match at Georgetown Prep on Tuesday (3:30 pm) at Norbeck CC before returning to MIAA A-Conference competition with a match at Hunt Valley this Wednesday (3:15) against Loyola.
