Cards drop regular season finale to St. Paul's

The Calvert Hall varsity golf team concluded the 2015 regular season on Wednesday, May 6 with a 16.5-4.5 loss to St. Paul's at Baltimore Country Club's West Course.  The defeat dropped the Cardinals to 6-4 on the year, good enough for 2nd place in the Black Division of the MIAA A-Conference.  Calvert Hall will now host a playoff match on Tuesday, May 12 at CC of Maryland against Gilman, whom the Cards beat 14-7 at Elkridge CC earlier in the regular season. If Calvert Hall wins on Tuesday, they'll travel to defending champion Archbishop Spalding on Wednesday, May 13 in the semi-finals at the Naval Academy Golf Course.

"We knew going in St. Paul's was very strong," states Head Coach Drew Forrester.  "We played the first four holes well -- as a team -- but the important 5th and 6th holes mostly went against us, which gave St. Paul's early momentum.  We just couldn't recover from that deficit."

Point getters for Calvert Hall were sophomore Finn McGinnis, who claimed all three of his available individual points, while Ryan Camille and Paul Schwing both captured a half-point.  The 5-6 pairing of senior Kevin May and Ryan Camille split their team match to gain a half-point.

"It's a new season now," Forrester explains.  "We've been down this road before.  You work hard to get in the post-season, then it becomes win or go home after that.  We know Gilman very well.  They're a talented team.  We'll need to play well next Tuesday in order to advance, no doubt about that."
