It is with great sorrow that Calvert Hall shares the passing of James “Jim” Morgan, CLU ’57 on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. A devoted alumnus and champion for students with learning differences, Jim was instrumental in the creation of the La Salle Program and remained a passionate advocate for dyslexia education and tutoring throughout the region.
A founding partner of Heritage Financial Consultants, Jim dedicated more than three decades to the insurance and financial services industry before retiring as CEO in 1997. He was also active in the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame and the Eastern Collegiate Association of Football Officials.
Brother John Kane, FSC, Ed.D, president of Calvert Hall, shared, “Jim Morgan was a treasure that we, at Calvert Hall, were blessed to share. Jim served on the Board of Trustees and was instrumental in starting the La Salle Program at Calvert Hall. He recognized that students with learning differences did not have the opportunity to attend private Catholic high schools. Not only did he support this at his alma mater, Calvert Hall, he helped any school in the area start programs, though he was most proud of the La Salle Program. The past few years he has courageously battled a devastating disease (ALS) and refused to let it keep him from living his life. He frequently called me to check in and attended many events. We are so proud to call Jim a grad, and he will be dearly missed.”
Inducted into the Calvert Hall Hall of Fame in 1986, Jim made it his mission to ensure that students would not have to struggle through school because of dyslexia or dysgraphia. In 1993, he launched the Morgan Family Foundation. Through its annual golf classic, the foundation has raised more than $2 million to support dyslexia learning opportunities across the Baltimore region. In recognition of his impact, Jim was named the Calvert Hall golf team’s honorary captain during the team’s 2025 MIAA Championship season.
Jennifer Healy, director of the La Salle Program, worked closely with Jim in building one of the region’s premier programs for students with learning differences. She shared, “Jim was a man of deep faith who demonstrated his love for God and his family every day. Alongside his wife, Bernice, he was instrumental in founding the LaSalle Program in 1985, an initiative that grew far beyond its humble beginnings and inspired countless others throughout the area.” She added, “Jim gave generously of both his time and resources, always seeking to uplift those around him. A hardworking and humble man, Jim truly embodied the CHC pillars of faith, intellect, and integrity.”
