The Michael Paul Curreri `69 Scholarship will provide need-based tuition assistance to the sons of active or retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Brother John Kane, FSC, Ed.D., shared, “We are honored that Renee and Mike have chosen to leave such a legacy with Calvert Hall. We believe that each young man that has the potential to succeed at Calvert Hall should be allotted the opportunity to experience a Catholic Lasallian education. Renee and Mike are helping further that vision.”

A 1969 grad of Calvert Hall, Mike went on to earn an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. After service as a line officer, he was chosen by the Navy to receive a law degree at the University of Notre Dame Law School and an LLM in Healthcare Law at The George Washington University Law School. He completed a career in the Navy, retiring as a JAGC Commander.

“My four years at Calvert Hall truly shaped my life,” added Mike Curreri. “Some of my best friendships to this day were made at The Hall. The Christian Brothers and lay teachers challenged me academically, and as a result, I was well-prepared for Annapolis and for a successful career in the Navy as an attorney.”

After building a thriving regional civilian litigation practice, Curreri transitioned into an entrepreneurial role - founding, growing and selling several international tech companies.

An endowed scholarship established with this financial commitment will be among the largest named scholarships at The Hall.

In addition to providing scholarship support, this gift will also establish the Renee and Michael Curreri Special Needs Grant to provide the school’s President resources for student hardship situations. “We understand that tuition alone can be a challenge for many families. An unexpected loss of income or a computer that needs replacing can be daunting. We want Brother John to know he can add us to those ready to help for a family in need,” added Renee Curreri.

The Michael Paul Curreri `69 Scholarship will be made available immediately resulting in the first award be given out for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The Michael Paul Curreri `69 Scholarship Endowment was established in 2021 by Renee and Mike Curreri `69 to provide scholarship support to one or more outstanding student scholars, with primary preference given to students who are the sons of retired or active members of the U.S. Armed Forces and who, without this support, would be unable to attend Calvert Hall. If no students meet the primary preference criteria, an alternative preference shall be given to sons of first responders (e.g., police, fire, emergency medical services). This award shall be renewable for the duration of the student’s attendance at Calvert Hall.
