In Memoriam of Frank Bramble, Sr. '66

It is with great sorrow that Calvert Hall shares the news regarding the passing on Saturday, September 23, 2023, of former Board of Trustees Chairman and Interim President, Frank P. Bramble, Sr. ’66.
A 1966 graduate of Calvert Hall, Frank was a veteran financial services executive with broad-ranging financial services experiences with national and international viewpoints. His career highlights include serving as the Chairman, President, and CEO of Allfirst Financial, Inc., MNC Financial, Inc., Maryland National Bank, American Security Bank, and Virginia Federal Savings Bank. He also served as the Executive Vice Chairman and an Advisor to the Executive Committee of MBNA Corporation during the merger with Bank of America. After the merger in 2006, he remained a part of the Bank of America Board of Directors. He was an emeritus member of the Board of Visitors of Towson University.

On July 1, 2013, Frank was appointed Interim President by Br. Dennis Malloy, FSC, Provincial for The Brothers of the Christian Schools District of Eastern North America. He served this interim presidency for one year until welcoming Brother John Kane, FSC, Ed.D. into the role. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees form July 2014 to June 2016. He also was a member of the CHC Board of Trustees serving terms from 1993-1995 and 2000-2006. Frank was inducted into the Calvert Hall Alumni Hall of Fame in 1993.

President Brother John Kane expressed, “We are deeply saddened with the loss of Frank. Very few individuals have impacted Calvert Hall, as well as the Baltimore region, as Frank. He has been an active alum, Board member, Board Chair and interim President. He was known nationally as a leader in the banking industry. Frank has led a successful life not because of what he did, but because of his leadership. He led with a quiet strength that was built on faith, character and class. He cared deeply and valued people for who they were. Countless people, including myself, were mentored by Frank and are better people as a result. We have lost a giant in our Calvert Hall history, and he will be missed dearly. We offer our prayers and support to his wife, Maggie, his children, grandchildren and the entire Bramble family. Calvert Hall and the Baltimore area have gained a wonderful advocate in heaven.”

Frank also served as the Chairman for the “Calvert Hall Forever” Capital Campaign which he and his wife donated the Bramble Academic Center located within George Young Hall. He also served as a tri-chair for the “Hall 175” Capital Campaign which is still in progress. In 2001, Frank along with his wife, Maggie, established the William A. Bramble, Sr. Scholarship named in memory of Frank’s father. The scholarship is in recognition of the sacrifices his father made to send Frank and his brother to The Hall. The endowment created by this gift provides tuition assistance to deserving students each year.

Calvert Hall Board of Trustees Chairman and Tri-Chair for the “Hall 175” Capital Campaign, Jeffrey Nattans ’85, shared, “Frank will be remembered by all he worked and served with for his unparalleled leadership, talent, and stewardship. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the multitude of people who thought of Frank as a friend, mentor, and confidant.”

He is survived by his wife, Maggie, brother, William Bramble, Jr. ’62, six children including Ryan ’01, Gregory ‘03, his son-in-law, Joseph Kozlowski ’83, and grandchildren including A.J. ’18.

A celebration of life and legacy for Frank will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at The B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.
