School Nurse

CALVERT HALL IS CURRENTLY SEEKING A SCHOOL NURSE
FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR

This position is responsible for assisting the lead school nurse in providing healthcare under the supervision of the principal and the lead school nurse.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Experience:
  • Graduated from an accredited nursing program.
  • One year of medical/clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
 License:
  • Current valid State License as a Registered Nurse; Audiometric Certificate desirable.
  • Valid Advanced First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by an authorized agency; certification must be renewed every two (2) years.
  • Valid Driver's License.
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
  • Treats the illnesses and injuries of students, faculty, and staff while maintaining confidentiality. Documents and notifies parents, guardians, Emergency Contacts, and/or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers as needed. Remains with and comforts the ill or injured student until stabilized and able to return to school or released to the parent/guardian. Offers comfort measures to students with minor discomforts.
  • Assists in the administration of medications according to provider and parent instructions; documents administration electronically in EMR; notifies parents of prescription refills as needed.
  • Maintains the health office in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; disposes of biomedical waste and hazards according to established procedures; maintains inventory and orders first aid supplies as necessary. Ensures medications are secured in double-locked cabinets.
  • Assists the lead school nurse with student health records, including all enrollment forms, daily visit documentation, and accommodations, while assuring confidentiality. Ensures all information is documented clearly, accurately, and legally.
  • Keeps an organized list of student accommodations. Email teachers/staff/trainers concerning accommodations as needed.
  • Collaborate with athletic trainers to provide seamless support on the field and in the classroom. Assist athletic Trainers in tracking up-to-date physical examination forms.
  • Assists the lead nurse with annual staff training concerning Emergency care, including, but not limited to, Seizure response, AED use, blood-borne pathogens, diabetic emergencies, Naloxone administration, and EpiPen administration.
  • Complete all staff/faculty training and maintain up-to-date licensure and CPR training.
  • Assists the Lead nurse in maintaining AEDs.
  • Collaborate with School Counselors to provide a collaborative approach to students' mental health and well-being.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students and the Dean of Academic Affairs to manage medically related absences.
  • Participate in staff/faculty meetings as required.
  • Understands and is clear about the role during the fire and disaster procedure.
  • Operates various office equipment, including a computer and assigned software.
  • Uses various medical equipment and instruments as assigned.
  • Perform various clerical duties, type various reports, correspondence, forms, and notices. 
    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
     
    Knowledge of:
    • Student health services related to injuries and illnesses.
    • School policies, procedures, and practices related to health issues, medical terminology, and related activities.
    • School policies and State regulations concerning immunization of school-aged children
    • Hygiene and health needs of school-aged children
    • Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.
    • School organization, operations, policies, and objectives.
    • Telephone techniques and etiquette
    • Public health agencies and local health care resources
    • First Aid and age-appropriate CPR techniques.
    • Health and safety regulations.
    • Attendance procedures and related document preparation techniques.
    • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
    • Electronic Medical Record-keeping techniques.
    • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
    • Oral and written communication skills.
    • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. 
    Ability to:
    • Assess and provide first aid care to ill and injured students, faculty, and staff.
    • Assist individuals with specialized health care needs.
    • Prepare and maintain various medical-related records, logs, and files.
    • Establish and maintain files, records, reports, and referrals.
    • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
    • Meet schedules and timelines.
    • Plan and organize work.
    • Work confidentially with discretion.
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Read, explain, and follow rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Apply appropriate care and procedures related to ill or injured students.
    • Perform clerical duties such as filing, typing, duplicating, and maintaining records.
    • Operate computer and medical equipment as required.
    • Complete work with many interruptions
    • Comply with the school’s customer service standards.
    • Certification must be renewed every two (2) years.
    • Valid driver's license. 
    Environment:
    • Office environment with constant interruptions. 
    Physical Demands:
    • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
    • Seeing to assess student injuries or illnesses.
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and medical equipment, perform first aid, and CPR.
    • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
    • Walking.
    • Pushing or pulling to assist students in wheelchairs.
    • Lifting and carrying moderately heavy children.
    • Bending at the waist.
    Hazards:
    • Contact with blood and other body fluids.
    • Potential for contact with blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
    • Chemicals, including antiseptics and disinfectants.
    • Biomedical waste and hazards.
    • Contact with potentially violent students.
    Working Relationships:
    • Ability to maintain confidential and positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, school and community organizations, and the public. 
    HOURS AND COMPENSATION:
     
    Start/End Dates: The position would start when the faculty returns from summer break (the week before Labor Day) and end on the last day of school. For 2025-2026 school year, the start date would be Tuesday, September 2, and the end date would be Friday, June 5.
     
    HoursThis is a part-time position. The hours are 8:45 to 2:45, Monday-Friday, for roughly 30 hours per week, for 39 weeks. The salary for this position is $25.00/hour. This position will get off the same holidays and snow days as our staff receive during the 39 weeks of the school year (Christmas Holiday, Easter Break (when offices are closed), Spring Holiday, etc. 
     
    Tuition Remission: We offer 56% off tuition and fees with this role.
