January 31 - Wisdom & Action
Click here to read our reflections from our last day:
Luke: This week went by faster than any other school week bringing life lessons and productive reflections with my Calvert Hall brothers. We made a huge impact on the kid's lives hearing many say we were the best Immersion Group they have ever had. I got to know the whole seventh grade class, but I bonded with four boys in particular who turned out to be the funniest kids. They would tell me so many different jokes and had the best attitudes welcoming me into their friend group. One thing we all found to be impactful was the relationships here, even when they have been disregarded by society and the government for many years and effected by various addictions. We all made it our mission to make a relationship with every kid in our classes, and we succeeded. Many students gave us letters, pictures, and other things to remember them by. Today was our final day in the classroom filled with a fun packed way to end Catholic School with an early dismissal. We made sure to make the most of the last day, spending time with the kids we feel we impacted the most this week. The school played a basketball game, Teacher vs. Students, for each grade where we cheered on the students who unfortunately lost in each game. We then ate lunch with the students in the gym and had many heartfelt, sad, yet joyous goodbyes. In only one week we were able to make a lifetime of memories and relationships that have changed my perspective on many things. We took pictures and said goodbye to the kids whom we will never see again, which hit us hard. We let the kids whom we connected with the most keep our nametags as a way of remembering us. We then bonded as a Calvert Hall group in Subway telling stories and reflecting on the week. After that we went to the school's Church and had the best reflection with Reconciliation, Eucharistic Adoration, and our final reflection. This week is truly a once in a lifetime experience that I am blessed to have been a part of with this fantastic group of guys. I would like to shoutout Ms. Fasy and Mr. McCormick for making this week memorable and taking care of all of us. I truly experienced the Calvert Hall brotherhood on this trip growing very close with all of the guys that came on this trip and made it amazing.
Noah Myers: This week has been nothing short of life changing. From meeting the students of De La Salle, Visiting Glacier National Park, Experiencing God in ways I never have before, and everything in between. As the week went on, the kids warmed up to us and felt comfortable enough to share traumatic experiences they have been through that have made them who they are. The resilience of these kids is truly remarkable and something I look up to. When we visited Glacier, it was easy to find God in the beautiful surroundings. I will never forget the landscape, and even more, the people I shared this memory with. There were a lot of ups and downs throughout the trip, but our group could not have been a better mix. Everyone brought different views, emotions, and experiences to share for everyone, but we also had more similarities than we would have thought. And I think we were all surprised by how much we all have in common. Also, surprised by how much we had in common with the students. The laughs and cries we experienced together this week will never be forgotten. And, I hope we are able to bond even more after this trip. When I reflect on my life some years from now, I know that this trip will be a key moment in who I will be. And I will never forget all the memories I made with my brothers this week.
