The Loyola Dons travelled to Calvert Hall as both team opened their MIAA schedule for the 2013 season. In what has become a regular occurance for the two teams, the match was not decided until the final 5mins of match play. The Dons held onto a 34-27 victory after being up 27-3 at the half.

The Dons wasted little time opening scoring nby taking a 7-0 lead 3 mins into the match. They quickly followed with 2 more scoring tries in the next 5 mins. Gercken's score came as the Dons were penalized and he took a quick tap to  dive into the try zone. Gercken's score cut the Dons' lead to 10points and left the score at 27-17.  Soriano would add his 2nd try minutes later off a beautiful feed from teammate Pete Duca. The Cards closed out their scoring using another Don penalty as Soriano tied the match with a 25 yd penalty kick.

The final 5 mins of the match saw the Dons take the lead off a Cardinal Penalty as the Dons defense stopped two Cardinal drives.
