Ms. Trish Kear- La Salle Program Faculty Feature

Ms. Kear has been working as a Learning Specialist with the La Salle Program for 18 years.  She works with a total of 10 students which she meets with individually each cycle as well as in groups of two.

What I like best about the La Salle Program?
"I like that I get to meet with my students everyday. This allows me to not only make progress with them on their goals and objectives but also to get to know them.  Building relationships with students is something Calvert Hall emphasizes.  Teachers and counselors do a great job of helping our students succeed."

Favorite memories - "I have truly enjoyed working with all my students over the years.  I especially remember fondly my first group of freshmen with whom I worked my first year until they graduated _ Bobby Herster-Dudley '07, Reds Beam '07, Corey Reichenbach '07, Taylor Scholz '07, and Drew Gress '07. I felt like I was learning the ropes along with them.  I am also proud of my students' accomplishments - from getting a top grade on a term paper (Paul) to a perfect score on the ACT Reading Test (Brendan) to becoming student body president (Brooks).  There are also a lot of laughs in La Salle such as when one of my students with dyslexia (Eric) beat me at Scrabble. One of the most gratifying things is hearing from former students years later and finding out about their successes in life."

Best part of virtual teaching- Ms. Kear felt the best part was not having to commute and being more available to her own kids who were home doing virtual learning.

Worst part of virtual teaching- "Technology cannot replace face-to-face interaction and there are always glitches - waiting for a file to upload, internet cutting out or lagging, etc.  It's harder to keep students accountable when they are not in person as well.  I find in-person learning much more efficient and effective."

Ms. Kear has two children, Michael '25 and Lauren.
