David Gately Named Head Varsity Basketball Coach

Calvert Hall College High School announced the appointment of David Gately as the Head Varsity Basketball Coach. Gately previously spent nine seasons in different capacities with the program.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Gately back to Calvert Hall,” exclaimed Dan Mulford `05, Director of Athletics “His experience winning games in the extremely competitive MIAA "A" Conference and the Baltimore Catholic League is a game changer for us. He has proven to be a great coach who knows how to develop young men. I look forward to watching our basketball program flourish under Coach Gately's leadership.”

Gately was instrumental in turning around the McDonogh program. Prior to his arrival the team had won zero league games. After one year at the helm, they won 10. Additionally, he helped the Gilman program accomplish a similar feat as the Greyhounds turned around a record of 9-27 to 21-9. 

Coach Gately shared, “I am so grateful to Dan Mulford, Br. John Kane and the entire search committee for this opportunity to guide the Calvert Hall basketball program into the next era. Calvert Hall has a storied and rich tradition of basketball and I am very excited about this opportunity.  I did not attend Calvert Hall but I do feel a part of the Calvert Hall family.  My son attended Calvert Hall and I was fortunate to coach basketball for nine seasons previously during Coach Bauersfeld’s highly successful tenure." 

During his playing time at Loyola College, he graduated as the 2nd all-time leading scorer. Gately's number has since been retired and he was named to the All-Century team at now Loyola University - Maryland. He is a member of the Mount St. Joseph and Loyola College Hall of Fame and in 2023 he was inducted into the Baltimore Catholic League Hall of Fame. 

He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Loyola College and is a Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
